Charlotte Wakefield, creator of Woven Form, is a textile designer and weaver, specialising in vibrant contemporary homeware and accessories. Based in Clapham, London she designs her cloth using both traditional and electronic looms. Combining the textures and patterns found within the structure and design of buildings with beautiful jewel colours, she creates perfect pieces to accent any outfit.
Charlotte's love of weaving began whilst studying Textile Design at University of Brighton, where she immediately became intrigued with the physical practice and the endless possibilities for experimentation through fibre, structure and colour. The design process starts with photography excursions around London; this is a perfect way to feel inspired. These ideas are next developed on the loom to test out pattern and colour combinations. Charlotte enjoys blending the softness and gentle tactility of natural materials such as luxurious merino wool and mohair with defined and bold geometric aesthetics.
Founded in 2016, Woven Form designs are bold graphic statement pieces that are developed and handwoven by Charlotte on a 16 shaft Ashford Loom and a 16 shaft Louet Magic Dobby Loom. This ensures all products are made to the highest quality and produced in a sustainable and ethically responsible manner; each piece is individual as small differences occur when handwoven.
This collection is a celebration combining the excitement and colourful nature of Brixton, London. An exciting combination of coral, blues, lime green and grey colours in merino wool and brushed mohair really embraces the jubilant lifestyle of Brixton. Inspiration for the patterns created has been taken from the wide range of architecture found within Brixton and the pedestrian crossings designed by Eley Kishimoto which featured in the 2016 London Design Festival. Each of the scarves is named after a street in Brixton which was a source of inspiration.
